William B. Nye (born 1933) is a former member of the Ohio General Assembly. Originally a member of the Ohio House of Representatives, he was elected to the Ohio Senate in 1966, he was reelected in 1968. An unsuccessful candidate for Congress in 1970, he went on to serve a total of four years in the Senate, resigning in January 1971 to take become Natural Resource Director for Ohio Governor John J. Gilligan.[1] Following Gilligan's defeat in 1974, he went on to serve as director of the Great Lakes Regional Office of the International Joint Commission, until 1985, when he resumed private practice in Akron.

When Congressman John Seiberling announced he would not seek reelection in 1986, Nye opted to replace him. However, after state Senator Marcus Roberto died and was replaced by Rep. Bob Nettle, Nye decided instead to run for a term in the Ohio House of Representatives. He was unsuccessful, but ran again in 1988, also losing.[2] In 1990, he opted to run for the Ohio Court of Appeals, but lost, and ran again for a Summit County Domestic Relations Judge in 1992. Running once more for a judicial position in 1996, he has since served only in the private sector.
